Dulwich Picture Gallery
At Dulwich is the gallery of pictures bequeathed to the
College by Sir Francis Bourgeois, R.A. in 1807.
It contains superb examples of the Dutch school, of Cuyp especially, also of Rembrandt,
Teniers, Van Dyck, Hobbema, Ostade, and Wouverman.
There are a few of Poussin's works, several Murillos, and some Gainsboroughs.
In fact, the gallery houses one of most important collections of European old master paintings of the 1600s and 1700s in the world.
Dulwich Picture Gallery was the first purpose-built art gallery in England, designed in 1811 by Sir John Soane.
In Dulwich College itself are several portraits of noted actors and poets.
