London Theatres in 1900: The Empire, Leicester Square
Arthur H. Beavan continued his survey of London's theatres, in Imperial London, published in 1901, with this look at the Empire, Leicester Square:
The entrance of the Empire Theatre, also in Leicester Square, gives little
indication of its gorgeous interior.
As a lounge for men about town, it is the most fashionable variety theatre in
London.

feats, animated pictures, performing birds and animals, and wonderful "turns"
by continental artistes, are the incidents in a long evening's amusement.
